The original, and still the best, a full-on intensive induction to stage skills and working safely during get-ins, fit-ups and get-outs. Based on the requirements of the UKT/BECTU Code of Conduct for Get-ins, Fit-ups and Get-outs this course is designed for both new technical recruits and as a refresher for time-served professionals. Literally ‘showing the ropes’ to new recruits, or those with limited experience in this area. An intensive introduction to the safe use of counterweight and other manual suspension systems in places of entertainment. The course can be tailored as a complete introduction or as a refresher. Areas covered are: principles of hemp and counterweight flying, selecting ironmongery and steel wire ropes, flying a counterweight set, use of the brake and rope clip, use of deads, show flying, flying tabs, rigging/de-rigging scenery, routine maintenance, brailing and breasting.

Developed in conjunction with ABTT, this course examines the impact of working in ceiling voids in the aftermath of the 2013 Apollo Incident. The course explores the wide spectrum of auditorium ceiling construction in the UK, including fibrous plaster, and how to operate safely in the confines of ceiling spaces. Modules include: properties of ceilings and voids, weathering and deterioration, inspection and maintenance regime, safety and security, permit to work, a close look at the venue itself. Ideal for resident venue technical and maintenance staff, the course is tailored to the specifics of the host venue.
